What is community solar?

Community solar programs allow all homeowners and renters to receive the savings benefit of solar energy. By subscribing to a community solar project, subscribers enable community solar providers like Solar Landscape to build and operate solar projects that add more clean energy to the local electricity grid. In return, subscribers receive credits on their monthly electrical utility bills that save them up to 20% on their electricity supply. There is no need to buy any special equipment or install any panels on your roof.

Will I be subscribed to a Community Solar Project in Elgin?

Spots in our Elgin project are assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Once the Elgin Project fills up, we will assign you to one of Solar Landscape's other Chicago-area projects so you can still benefit from community solar.

Do I need to own a home to participate?

No. Customers do not have to own a home to join a community solar program because there are no panels to install on your property. The program is available to both renters and homeowners.

How do I enroll in a Solar Landscape community solar project?

The online enrollment process is simple and straightforward. You’ll provide your name, contact information, ComEd Electricity Choice ID, and meter number, both of which can be found on your ComEd bill and can be used to verify the account and determine your annual energy usage. You’ll sign a community solar contract with Solar Landscape which you can cancel at any time. There are no upfront fees. When the solar project you are assigned to is energized, you will begin to see a solar credit on your electrical utility bill, saving you up to 20% on your electricity supply.

Does my participation help the environment?

Absolutely!  By participating in community solar, you are helping to add new, clean sources of energy to the local electricity grid, and reducing the need for fossil fuel sources.

How do I save money with community solar?

Just like a house with rooftop solar gets credit for the power generated by solar panels, community solar subscribers get a credit for the power generated by their share of the community solar project. With the support of state and federal renewable energy incentives, Solar Landscape  provides this clean power at a discount and passes the savings on to subscribers.

In Illinois, you will receive a Renewable Community Supply Credit on your ComEd bill, which is based on the kilowatt-hours of energy generated by your share of the solarproject and valued at 20% of the utility’s Price to Compare rate. This credit reduces the amount you owe for electricity supply to ComEd, saving you money each month.

How does billing work with community solar?

Your bill provides full transparency of your energy usage, solar credits applied to your account, and monthly cost savings. If you have any questions about your billing, you may call member services. These contact numbers are available when you enroll.

Can I enroll even if I have a balance on my account?

You are eligible to enroll in our projects as long as you do not have a past-due balance of $250 or more. If you reduce your past-due balance to below $250 after enrolling, you can provide a copy of your updated bill to help@solarlandscape-support.com. This updated bill will allow us to process and verify your enrollment.

Can budget bill customers enroll?

Currently, we are unable to enroll budget bill customers as it may create a confusing and undesirable experience for subscribers. Customers are encouraged to consider unenrolling from budget billing if they are interested in lowering their bills through one of our projects.

When will my bill reflect the community solar discount?

Typically, it will take one to three billing cycles after your project is energized to begin receiving solar credits on your bill. You will be informed when your project is energized.

Do I receive two bills – one from my utility and one from Solar Landscape?

Starting in 2024, Solar Landscape subscribers in Illinois will only receive one utility bill with their Renewable Community Supply Credit applied, which reduces the amount owed to the utility. Solar Landscape will not send you a separate bill.

Are there any additional costs?

No. There is no cost to sign up or cancel, and no cost to participate in the program.

Do I keep my current utility provider?

Yes. You continue to be a customer of your utility provider. By subscribing to community solar, you have simply chosen to participate in a green energy project that is now being offered in your community.

Is the electricity provided to my home the same way it always has been?

Yes. Nothing changes.

Can I cancel my community solar subscription at any time?

Yes. You may cancel your subscription any time without charge by calling (888)595-3990 or emailing help@solarlandscape-support.com

If I move to a different address, will I be able to remain in the program?

We’ll do our best! Your community solar service can be moved to a new address as long as there is a Solar Landscape community solar project servicing your new community.

Does Solar Landscape perform a credit check to enroll?

No. There are no credit checks necessary to enroll in the program.

Who do I contact if I have questions?
