BINJE: Energy expansion: Solar Landscape eager to meet Sherrill’s goal of increasing in-state generation

January 27, 2026

Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s day-one executive orders included measures to expand in-state power generation, positioning solar and battery storage as near-term solutions to lower energy costs and improve grid reliability. This directive signals a broader strategy to increase supply and deliver more meaningful, long-term savings for residents.

For commercial property owners, this creates a rare alignment between public policy and private value. Front-of-the-meter rooftop solar generates annual lease payments for the owner without capital investment, strengthens tenant and community relationships, and allows landlords to contribute directly to New Jersey’s energy future.

Solar Landscape CEO Shaun Keegan welcomed the announcement, calling it “a decisive step toward addressing high energy costs and expanding clean energy in New Jersey.” He emphasized that community solar is an immediate, scalable option, supported by the state’s vast inventory of underused commercial rooftops.

With state leadership prioritizing rapid deployment, Solar Landscape is prepared to scale its efforts and help deliver real financial relief and greater energy stability across New Jersey.
