Solar Landscape Completes Atlantic County’s First Community Solar Project
Egg Harbor Twp., NJ – August 15, 2024 – Solar Landscape, the nation’s leading commercial and community solar developer, announced today that it has energized the first community solar project in Atlantic County, N.J.
This project was completed with the support and interconnection by Atlantic City Electric and marks Solar Landscape’s first community solar project energized in Atlantic City Electric’s service area.
The new 920-kilowatt (DC) rooftop solar installation in Egg Harbor Township now serves over 200 households and will save local residential subscribers – most of whom are low- and moderate-income families – over $300 per year on home energy bills on average.
The project is the final installation to be energized in an award-winning 6 MW (DC) capacity portfolio of rooftop community solar projects on Extra Space Storage facilities throughout the state. The renewable energy portfolio will serve 900 local households, saving subscribers a total of nearly $240,000 per year. One of the projects in the portfolio was named Project of the Year by Solar Builder magazine.
“We recognize the importance in connecting community solar projects, like this one, to the grid and know that our customers and the communities we serve are able to gain access to a clean energy solution that they may otherwise not have without community solar,” said Phil Vavala, region president, Atlantic City Electric. “Community solar expands access regardless of your property limitations and gives residents the ability to save, all while moving our clean energy goals forward and supporting the state’s clean energy future.”
“Together with Atlantic City Electric and Extra Space Storage, we’re advancing the benefits of community solar to even more residents in southern New Jersey,” said Solar Landscape CEO and Co-Founder Shaun Keegan. “Our first community solar project with Atlantic City Electric is an exciting milestone for Solar Landscape and we appreciate the teamwork that makes projects like this a reality. Extra Space Storage was an early leader on community solar and we’re proud to continue to partner with them to bring guaranteed savings and good-paying jobs to local residents through our rooftop community solar projects.”
Extra Space Storage’s community solar projects created family-sustaining jobs in the clean energy economy for installers who placed solar panels across 725,000 square feet of the company’s commercial rooftops.
“Extra Space Storage has been committed to solar initiatives for more than a decade, an effort that has taken on new meaning with community solar,” said McKall Morris, Senior Manager of Communications and Sustainability, Extra Space Storage. “Through this partnership with Solar Landscape, Extra Space is proud to be bringing more value to our communities, customers, employees, and shareholders by expanding access to affordable solar energy.”
Solar Landscape’s community solar projects allow residents to subscribe to a nearby large solar installation that is hosted on a commercial rooftop. The residents subscribe to receive the electricity generated at a discounted rate, expanding access to affordable renewable energy to residents who could not previously access it.
